Why is it better that 2x5TB WD Green?

Who the hell uses HDD now days?

>HDD Wake me when 1TB SSD:s are <150€

3 TB+ HDD have terribad reliability.
If you want to store 3TB+ reliability, you have to use Sony Magnetic tapes (e.g. at a law firm or hedge fund).
3TB+ HDDs don't last very long. Anything sub 2TB is okay for longer term on HDD. Just wait for 1TB SSDs.
|
| >> |
I never in my life used more than 100GB
|
| >> |
Cheap 500 GB SSDs, when? ;_;
|
| >> |
>>24532747 Greens are god awful HDDs. Many complain that their Green's have died within the first year of ownership or arrived with bad sectors.

Helium... reminds me of some 80s IBM drives.
|

Tell me when it's 1TB SSD
|

>>24532778 They are cheap as dirt. Who needs good reliability for porn storage?
|

Why do I need so many memory space?
|

>>24532813 Personal files you can backup on almost anything.
You can always just redownload your games, movies and music.

I'll never trust something with this many platters and as high data density. No fucking way.
|

>>24532852 Yess, that's why I am content with my 640GB WD Black.

A bernd has no need for 10TB HDD or 50TB magnetic taps.

Have no problems with my 1TB Hitachi Ultrastar other than it's full alrdy
|
| >> |
>>24532875 >A bernd has no need for 10TB HDD or 50TB magnetic taps. Unless you want to back up every single post on /int/ for the next couple of years or so. Now that i think about it, that would be pretty cool. Setup a PC that is online 247 and it does nothing but saves threads/posts on /int/ including all the pics and webms.
With some personal tweaking, you could make it so, that it doesn't download the same webm etc twice.

>>24532778 My green died before 1st year I use Toshibas now

how on earth are you supposed to fill it, even with ultra hd porn that's a lot of playtime.
|
| >> |
>>24532993 If for some reason you have a lot of money, but still crappy internet. In that case you would not want to be forced to download anything more than once (like Steam gaymes)

I run a headless PC for FullHD movies sake, stream them thru DLNA to PS3 connected to a TV. It has 1TB HDD which is full alrady with all the good classic stuff I don't wanna delete.
Gotta get one of those 2-3TB HDDs that are reliable. Seeing how Hitachi is great in everything I may get it again.
|
| >> |
>>24532968 Have you used it as a storage or as a main HDD?
|

>>24533062 Have you considered maybe you have a hoarding problem? Nobody really needs much disk space except companies.

>>24533125 Not really. I just like movies.
>Nobody really needs much disk space except companies. Or people who store data they need. Some say - meh just download a movie when you need it.
Now imagine downloading ~12gb file. Even with 10mb download speed it takes ages.
|
| >> |
>>24533215 When I say 10mb download speed i mean 10mb per second.
|
| >> |
>>24533215 >Or people who store data they need.
But that's it... they don't need it.
The first reaction is denial... I dunno maybe you can try to be a buddhist or focus on simple healthy living as a stepping stone.
|
| >> |
Imagine all the animu you could archive.
|
| >> |
>>24533125 Also not all the movies I have are 1080p because 1TB HDD is not enough for that. But seeing how 1TB drives now cost around 100 bucks it's not gonna be a problem. It's a wonderful time we're living in.
>>24533260 >The first reaction is denial... I dunno maybe you can try to be a buddhist or focus on simple healthy living as a stepping stone. Or maybe I should stop talking to silly trolls
>>24533272 > Netflix isn't a thing in Russia yet? >Internet streaming >2014 >Buying the stream I'm not gonna answer this.
>>24533298 Also this.
|
| >> |
>>24533298 Germany why would you archive anime? I thought most of the titles are to watch once. I have some classics that I store but those are widescreen 2 hour movie-like animes like Akira.
|
| >> |
>>24533336 I'm not a troll, sorry if you were offended. You can do what you want, it's your choice. But you don't need all that disk space.
Imagine if you buy a new hard drive once a year, that's hoarding. It's our ancient biological instinct to "collect" and "save".
Many people keep old shoes around because "maybe" they will need them. (It is never used again) It's often the same with data files.
|
| >> |
>>24533412 > But you don't need all that disk space. You're not a movie guy. Also you jump into conclusions.

>>24533487 Why are you denying it? He is right, you have some problems, you just have to deal with them.

>Half of IT get shitgrin on their face
>"Project: Internet is for... archive"
>What the hell is this?
>Guys pay for porn site and its my job to download them completly
>MFW i get payed to download porn from multiple sites
>stuff get copied on old HDDs when finished and IT guys take it home
>get my own share of it
>MFW i got about 14TB of porn on like 9 hard drives from "work"
>And we told the management we could find someone who would send data for our old HDDs

>10TB HDDs >Price for 6TB HDD is around 700-800 dollars
Who the fuck would buy something like this for that price. 10TB HDDs will come out with a price around 1k bucks I guess.
Gotta wait for 2 years or so til things will get cheaper.
>>24533125 > Have you considered maybe you have a hoarding problem?
I got 3 top-notch PCs, one server PC, PS4, 2 Flatscreen TVs, 500 bucks stereo system, 32 inch monitor and no hoarding problems. Also you pic depicts people who collect junk from a street. You just jelly, poorfag.
|
| >> |
I like to hoard things because I live in constant fear that the open internet will soon shut down and we wont be able to download anything for free anymore, or even worse, we wont be able to access very niche stuff which is only available through the internet. Thats why I'm hoarding.

N-no goyim, the CLOUD is the future.
|
| >> |
>>24535391 This or ISP can fuck thigns up for the whole day and you're stuck with your paid streaming service subscription/cloud and whatnot that does nothing without internet connection.
Also good luck streaming good quality videos because as far as I know bitrate of a decent 1080p goes beyond 10mbp/s download speed (aka 100mb bandwidth).
|
| >> |
>>24535469 Aren't bitrates given in bits? So a video with a bitrate of 10mbps would work just fine with an internet connection with 10mbps download

>>24535480 >>24535482 256GB Crucial MX100 is 80-90€. There's literally NO reason not to use an SSD as your main drive.

>>24535480 Enjoy slow load times, disk errors, disk failures, no connection to the cloud, downloading a shitload of piracy just so you can have it in there and never play, watch, hear, etc.
|

>>24535509 You got it all wrong. What I was trying to say is a decent FullHD source is beyond 100mbps bandwidth which btw most people still don't even have.
